Portraits

Piano and Clarinet

As a photographer, I am trained to see the beauty in things of all shapes and sizes and when an opportunity came up to photograph two amazing musicians alongside their musical instruments, I just out of my seat.  There is something absolutely inspiring about “concept” shoots because they challenge the photographer both creatively and technically, and I love it!

The day before our scheduled photo shoot, which took place at the gorgeous Woman’s Athletic center in downtown Chicago, I had the pleasure to see Catherine and Olga in concert.  The girls were amazing, and their music gave me some inspiration for the upcoming shoot.

Catherine Gatewood holds and bachelor and masters degrees in music and has studied under various noted conductors.  Her recordings include William Bolcom’s orchestral work, Song of Innocence and of Experience, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, which was awarded 4 Grammy awards in 2005, including Best Classical Album.  She has been playing Bass Clarinet with the Naples Philanthropic Orchestra for five years.

After moving to the United States from Belarus at the age of 13, Olga Gorelik won the concerto competition twice during her three years at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. After being invited to play at the Las Galas Concert Series in Mexico, she expanded her success into chamber music with the Klimt trio. Olga has participated in various piano festivals including International Keyboard Festival and Pianofest.  Recent appearances include the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and a recital series in Scotland.

And herewith these talented gals and their instruments…
